“The Birthplace of Speed” Ormond Beach, FL

The City of Ormond Beach became popular after the Civil War and Florida started to experience a tourism boom from many wealthy seeking relief away from northern winters.  In 1886 the St Johns and Halifax railway began, and the first bridge across the Halifax River was built in 1887.

In early 1902, some of the first automobile races were held on the sands from Ormond to Daytona. Triple AAA The American Automobile Association, brought timing equipment in 1903 and the area became known as, "The Birthplace of Speed."

Ormond Beach has 4 riverfront parks and a beachfront park and many other smaller parks throughout the City.  It has a quaint historic district along Granada Blvd from A1A to Orchard Street and is home to dozens of locally-owned restaurants and shops.

It is a beautiful City well worth the visit.
