Bahia Honda in the Florida Keys

Nearly 500 years ago the 1st Spanish Explorers sailed past this Island and gave it its name “Deep Bay”. The white sandy beaches are surrounded by crystal clear waters from the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. At night, away from city lights, you can see The Milky Way resting on a background of stars that appear so close one can almost reach and touch. This state park is home to the Iconic Bahia Honda Rail Bridge, a derelict railroad that use to connect Big Pine Key with Spanish Harbor Key. It was 1st built in 1905 and opened for operation in 1912. The bridge was abandoned in 1972 after the construction of newly built bridges across the Florida Keys. Definitely a place to see.
